Event Description:

This is the California Acceleration Project's third annual statewide conference showcasing how community colleges are responding to the requirements of AB 705 and fostering the success of all students.

This conference is intended for faculty, administrators, researchers, system leaders, policymakers and advocates.

Keynote Speakers:

Zaretta Hammond, national education consultant and author of Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain: Promoting Authentic Engagement and Rigor for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students, will give a speech titled "The Essentials of Instructional Equity: Supporting Students to be the Leaders of Their Own Learning," focusing on the opportunities and challenges of helping dependent learners build their ability to process new content more effectively.

Carrie Marks is a Professor of English at Sacramento City College who piloted one of the first corequisite courses in the state with a cohort of students in the Umoja learning community and leads acceleration-focused professional development within her department and district. Her speech, titled "Maximum Capacity: Increasing Ours to Recognize Theirs," will focus on building a capacity mindset in faculty to support students in the post-AB 705 classroom.

February 21, 2019: Pre-Conference Workshops (10:00-5:00)

February 22-23, 2019: Main Conference (9:00-4:15, both days with a reception on Friday from 4:30 to 6:00)

A limited block of rooms has been reserved for February 21st and 22nd at the DoubleTree Sacramento for $179/night plus taxes/fees. Book by Wednesday, January 30, 2019 to receive the reduced rate. When this block sells out, there will be no more discounted rooms.

Additionally, we have negotiated a parking rate of $10/day for day use and overnight guests.

Registration/Payment Information:.

  • $250 for the main conference (Early bird registration price available until January 21st. Price goes up to $300 on January 22nd)
  • $75 for the pre-conference workshops

Registrations must be paid by credit card through the Eventbrite registration site. We are unable to invoice for this event. In case of cancellation, refunds will be available through Eventbrite until February 14, 2019. No refunds will be issued after this date.

Meals:

Lunch will be provided for pre-conference participants on Thursday and for all participants Friday and Saturday. Additionally, a continental breakfast will be served on Friday and Saturday. There will also be a reception on Friday evening. Dinner is on your own each day.
